Customizing a builder basic, or “cookie cutter” house can change the entire feel and make it a home. Even when you have a tight budget, there are personalization’s that can be made, to make the home yours.
“Your home should be a reflection of things you love and show your personal style.”
“What updates will add value to my home?” This is by far the most popular question when helping create a more curated space for clients.
There are many different options for changing the look, even on a tight budget. I work with a wide variety of vendors that offer great products at all price points.
Does the term “builder beige” ring a bell? Yes, builder beige is the easy go-to that you will find in many cookie cutter and builder basic homes. The flat, dry paint is usually found on every single wall in a house. I once was a victim of builder beige, and it was one of the first things that had to go. I wanted to add some life in the house and there’s nothing quite like fresh paint to do that. I have an open concept home, so I went with one color throughout the kitchen, dining and living rooms, and spiced it up a little with the powder room!
Yes! The powder room is a great space to go bold and add some rich color or wall paper. Take a look at what we did to this builder basic powder room. It went from drab to warm and inviting. We added new lighting, a framed mirror, hardware, countertop, re-purposed the vanity by painting it a rich blue, and added the beautiful large print coral wallpaper. We made a huge impact with this small space, and it was a WIN.
Hardware! Don’t underestimate the difference hardware can make in a house. No matter your style, there is hardware out there for you! This is one of the easiest, most budget friendly updates you can make in a home. It’s amazing the difference it can make in a kitchen, bathroom, or even change the feel of furniture.
Light fixtures are yet another great way to personalize your home on a budget. There are so many resources to find quality, yet budget friendly options that will set your home apart from the rest.
